The wilderness can be described as a 'dry and thirsty land' (Psalm 63:1); it can be a place of desolation and desperation. In Hebrew, however, we can find a secret hope that brings waters of refreshing to our soul. The Hebrew word for desert or wilderness is Midbar. A corresponding word in Hebrew means 'to speak'. It is often this lonely place that God speaks a Word to our hearts.
